The General Secretariat for Civil Protection recommends that citizens should be particularly cautious and:

Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a fire due to negligence, such as throwing lit cigarettes, burning dry grasses, branches or scraps, using sparking machines such as circular saws, welding devices, or outdoor grills, throwing glasses to outside – outdoor spaces etc.

Also, it is reminded that during the fire-fighting period the burning of the fields is prohibited.

The Municipality of  Lefkada also draws attention to the inhabitants of the urban area. Housekeepers should be careful, not to forget cooking utensils in the fire or the electric cuurent, have a fire extinguisher at home, etc. An equal amount of attention should also be paid by the businessmen.

Also, do not park the cars at the entrance or in the narrow streets and thus exclude the immediate intervention of the Fire Brigade and the Abulance. Be comply with the instructions of the appropriate persons and apply the road signs.

In the event of a fire, citizens are kindly requested to immediately notify the Fire Service to the telephone number 199.
